What Is ADHD?

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain regulates attention, behavior, emotions, and executive functioning.

Children with ADHD may have difficulty staying focused, controlling impulses, managing emotions, or sitting still. Some children primarily struggle with inattention, while others experience hyperactivity and impulsivity. Many children have a combination of both.

ADHD is not caused by poor parenting, laziness, or a lack of discipline. It is a complex neurological condition influenced by genetics, brain development, and environmental factors.

Many children with ADHD are creative, energetic, empathetic, and intelligent—they simply process the world differently.

How New Journey Chiropractic Approaches Care

At New Journey Chiropractic, we understand that children with ADHD are more than a diagnosis.

Our neurologically-focused approach looks at how the nervous system is functioning and how stress, sensory input, posture, sleep, and movement patterns may be affecting your child’s ability to regulate and adapt to their environment.

Dr. Jayme performs a comprehensive evaluation that may include:

  • Pregnancy and birth history
  • Developmental milestones
  • Nervous system assessment
  • Postural evaluation
  • Sensory and motor function
  • Sleep patterns
  • Emotional and behavioral concerns
  • Lifestyle and environmental factors

Chiropractic care focuses on supporting the nervous system and helping the body function as efficiently as possible.

Our goal is not to treat or cure ADHD, but to support your child’s overall health, adaptability, and quality of life while working alongside their existing healthcare team.

Many families report improvements in areas such as:

  • Sleep quality
  • Emotional regulation
  • Body awareness
  • Stress resilience
  • Overall well-being
  • Ability to relax and settle

Every child is different, and outcomes vary from child to child.

Collaboration With Other Healthcare Providers

We believe children thrive when healthcare providers work together.

Depending on your child’s needs, Dr. Jayme may collaborate with:

  • Pediatricians
  • Developmental pediatricians
  • Psychologists
  • Psychiatrists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Speech therapists
  • Behavioral therapists
  • School counselors
  • Functional medicine practitioners

If medication or behavioral therapy is part of your child’s care plan, we support your family’s decisions and work alongside those providers.

Can chiropractic care cure ADHD?

No. Chiropractic care does not cure ADHD. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that often requires a comprehensive approach. Chiropractic care may help support nervous system function and overall well-being as part of your child’s healthcare plan.

Will my child need medication?

That decision is best made with your child’s pediatrician or specialist. Some children benefit from medication, while others benefit from behavioral therapies, educational accommodations, lifestyle changes, or a combination of approaches.

Is chiropractic care safe for children with ADHD?

Yes. Pediatric chiropractic care uses gentle, age-appropriate techniques tailored to your child’s needs and comfort level.

My child also has sensory challenges. Can you help?

Many children with ADHD experience sensory processing differences. Our evaluation looks at how the nervous system processes and responds to sensory information, and we frequently collaborate with occupational therapists and other specialists.

Do you work with my child's pediatrician?

Absolutely. We believe children benefit most when healthcare providers work together, and we are happy to collaborate with your child’s healthcare team.

If your child is struggling with attention, focus, emotional regulation, or hyperactivity, you do not have to navigate it alone.

At New Journey Chiropractic, we provide gentle, neurologically-focused care designed to support your child’s nervous system, development, and overall well-being—while partnering with your family every step of the way.
