Ormond Beach Infant Colic & Gentle Chiropractic Care

When your baby cries for hours and nothing seems to help, it can leave the whole family feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. At New Journey Chiropractic, we take a gentle, neurologically-focused approach to supporting infants and helping parents better understand what may be contributing to their baby’s discomfort.

What Is Infant Colic?

Infant colic is often described as frequent, intense crying in an otherwise healthy baby. It commonly begins within the first few weeks of life and may be worse in the late afternoon or evening.

Colic does not always mean something is seriously wrong, but it can be stressful for both baby and parents. Because excessive crying can sometimes be related to feeding challenges, reflux, tension, digestion, or other health concerns, it is important to look at the whole picture.

Common Signs & Symptoms Of Infant Colic

  • Crying for long periods of time
  • Crying that is difficult to soothe
  • Fussiness that is worse in the evening
  • Pulling knees toward the belly
  • Arching the back
  • Clenched fists
  • Trouble settling after feeds
  • Gas or digestive discomfort
  • Difficulty sleeping comfortably
  • Preference for turning the head one way

Possible Causes Of Infant Colic?

The exact cause of colic is not always clear. For some babies, crying may be related to normal newborn development. For others, contributing factors may include digestive discomfort, feeding or latch challenges, reflux, oral tension, birth stress, nervous system stress, or musculoskeletal tension.

Parents should contact their pediatrician right away if their baby has a fever, vomiting, poor feeding, blood in the stool, difficulty breathing, extreme sleepiness, poor weight gain, a swollen belly, or a sudden change in crying pattern.

How New Journey Chiropractic Approaches Care

At New Journey Chiropractic, infant care is gentle, specific, and focused on the nervous system. We look at how your baby’s spine, cranial structures, jaw, neck, and overall body tension may be affecting comfort, feeding, digestion, and sleep.

Care for infants is not the same as adult chiropractic care. Dr. Jayme uses very light pressure, gentle positioning, and age-appropriate techniques designed for a baby’s developing body.

Our goal is not to “treat colic” as a disease, but to support your baby’s nervous system, reduce areas of tension, and help the body function as well as possible.

Collaboration

When needed, we also collaborate with pediatricians, lactation consultants, dentists, ENTs, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers to make sure your baby receives the right care.

Can chiropractic care help infant colic?

Chiropractic care does not “cure” colic, but gentle pediatric chiropractic care may help support the nervous system and address tension patterns that can contribute to discomfort, feeding challenges, and difficulty settling.

Is chiropractic care safe for babies?

Infant chiropractic care is very gentle and uses light, specific pressure. At New Journey Chiropractic, techniques are always adapted for your baby’s age, size, development, and comfort.

Will my baby be adjusted like an adult?

No. Infant care is completely different from adult adjusting. There is no twisting, cracking, or forceful movement. Care is gentle, calm, and specific.

When should I bring my baby in?

Many parents bring their baby in when they notice excessive crying, trouble settling, feeding struggles, body tension, head-turning preference, reflux-like discomfort, or difficulty sleeping comfortably.

Should my baby still see a pediatrician?

Yes. Chiropractic care works best as part of a team approach. If there are red flags, illness concerns, poor weight gain, fever, vomiting, or breathing concerns, your baby should be evaluated by a pediatrician.

If your baby is struggling with colic, excessive crying, or difficulty settling, you do not have to figure it out alone. New Journey Chiropractic is here to support your family with gentle, neurologically-focused care. Book an appointment online or call us at (386) 236-8085 to get started.
