Knee Pain
Knee Pain Chiropractic Care in Ormond Beach
Knee pain can make everyday activities like walking, climbing stairs, exercising, or simply getting out of a chair uncomfortable. At New Journey Chiropractic, we take a neurologically-focused, whole-body approach to evaluate your knee, movement patterns, and nervous system function to better understand factors that may be contributing to your discomfort.
What Is Knee Pain?
The knee is one of the largest and hardest-working joints in the body. It supports your body weight while allowing you to walk, run, squat, climb, and pivot. Because the knee experiences significant stress throughout the day, it is susceptible to injury, overuse, and age-related changes.
Knee pain may develop suddenly after an injury or gradually over time. While the pain is often felt directly in the knee, problems involving the hips, ankles, feet, or lower back can affect how the knee moves and contribute to ongoing discomfort.
Common Signs & Symptoms
- Pain when walking, standing, or climbing stairs
- Swelling around the knee
- Stiffness or decreased range of motion
- Pain when bending or straightening the knee
- Clicking, popping, or grinding sensations
- Instability or the feeling that the knee may “give out”
- Difficulty squatting or kneeling
- Tenderness around the kneecap or joint line
- Pain during or after exercise
Possible Causes
Knee pain can result from many different conditions, including:
- Ligament sprains (ACL, MCL, LCL, PCL)
- Meniscus injuries
- Patellofemoral pain syndrome (runner’s knee)
- Tendinitis (including patellar tendinitis)
- Knee bursitis
- Osteoarthritis
- Muscle strains
- Overuse injuries
- Poor lower extremity biomechanics
- Foot or ankle dysfunction
- Hip weakness or reduced mobility
Red Flags
Because knee pain can have many possible causes, a thorough evaluation can help determine what may be contributing to your symptoms.
Seek immediate medical attention if your knee pain follows significant trauma, you are unable to bear weight, notice a visible deformity, experience severe swelling immediately after an injury, have signs of infection such as redness, warmth, and fever, or your knee becomes locked and cannot move.
How New Journey Chiropractic Approaches Care
At New Journey Chiropractic, we don’t just evaluate the knee—we assess how your entire body moves together. The feet, ankles, hips, pelvis, spine, and nervous system all influence knee function and movement patterns.

- Orthopedic and neurological examination
- Knee range of motion assessment
- Ligament and meniscus testing when appropriate
- Gait analysis
- Posture evaluation
- Assessment of foot, ankle, hip, pelvis, and spinal biomechanics
- Functional movement assessment
Your personalized care plan may include:
- Gentle chiropractic adjustments to the feet, ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, and spine when appropriate
- Soft tissue therapy to reduce muscle tension
- Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization when indicated
- Mobility and stretching exercises
- Strengthening exercises for the hips, glutes, quadriceps, and hamstrings
- Balance and stability training recommendations
- Home exercise program
- Ice or heat recommendations when appropriate
- Activity modification recommendations when appropriate
Collaboration With Other Healthcare Providers
If your examination suggests a fracture, significant ligament or meniscus injury, infection, advanced joint degeneration, or another condition requiring additional medical evaluation, we will help coordinate care with the appropriate healthcare provider.
Can chiropractic help knee pain?
Many types of knee pain respond well to conservative care. Chiropractic treatment may help improve joint mobility, restore healthy movement patterns, reduce muscle tension, and address biomechanical issues that contribute to knee pain.
Why would you check my hips and feet if my knee hurts?
The knee works as part of a kinetic chain. Restrictions or weakness in the feet, ankles, hips, or pelvis can change the way forces are distributed through the knee, increasing stress on the joint.
Will I need an MRI?
Not everyone needs advanced imaging. If your history or examination suggests a significant ligament tear, meniscus injury, fracture, or another serious condition, we may recommend imaging or referral to the appropriate healthcare provider.
Should I keep exercising?
It depends on the cause of your knee pain. In many cases, activity can continue with modifications while healing occurs. We will provide individualized recommendations based on your examination.
When should I seek emergency medical care?
Seek immediate medical attention if you cannot bear weight after an injury, have an obvious deformity, rapidly developing swelling, severe pain after trauma, fever with a swollen knee, or your knee becomes locked and cannot move.
